Moving and Handling in Child Care

 Who should attend?

This is course is suitable for child care practitioners who have the role of handling children in all aspects of a child care setting. There are two elements of this course which can be divided to meet individual organisational needs. The first part of this course relates to the HSE requirements of safe manual handling practices. The second part of this course includes the use of moving and handling aids such as hoists and slings. This part of the course is suitable for educational settings supporting children with physical disabilities.

What will you learn?

candidates who attend will learn how to prevent back injuries, maintain psychological and physiological well-being, develop skills and methods to safely use techniques to support children. Where there is high dependency on the staff to manoeuvre children, understanding of safe practices and the use of aids are taught.

Course Duration

Part 1 of the day is half day (Three hours) and the Full Day (six hours) includes part 2. Maximum number of 12 candidates. This course is often delivered onsite.

Assessment and certification

This course is delivered by a qualified trainer. Candidates will be assessed continuously throughout the training and will be expected to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of HSE requirements of safe moving and handling, adhere to the Manual Handling Regulations 1992, demonstrate the use of assistive aids and understand the course aims and objectives with a final assessment. Candidates will receive a certificate valid for 12 months and a workbook.
